Dennis, Brittany - Fugitive Blog

The opening scene of the Fugitive is in semi-slow motion and in black and white. It is of Dr. Kimble's wife being murdered by a man in a trench coat. The man is wearing a dark jacket as he pushes Mrs. Kimble around. The black and white effect of the film makes the scene appear like an old police photo. There are certain shots that are paused and have heavy emphasis by being given the effect of a negative film. The entire seen looks like police photos and the police are having trouble piecing the scene together.

When Dr. Kimble is brought to the police station, the police are asking him questions, that seem to insinuate that he was the one that murdered his wife. They assume that since his prints were all HIS house, HIS gun and the lamp in their bedroom that he murdered her. It is HIS house, gun and lamp, so his print are going to be there. Another reason the police think he's guilty, is because during the 911 call, Mrs.Kimble calls out his name "Richard".
The photo I chose, is the one when he is being photographed and booked for his wife murder. If you look in his eyes, you can see the pain, and coldness. This photo is before he goes to vourt and hears his wife's 911 call and in that scene the he begins to cry hearing the last words she ever spoke. This scene is well lit around his face, but dimmer around the right side of his face and focused on the facial expression of Kimble. It also look like he is transitioning from old to you where everything else is dark and he has a gray beard.

The opening scene from the movie foreshadows his innocence because the murderer is wearing a dark jacket. He also does not have a beard, so he cannot be Kimble and he has dark hair. Kimble also was at the hospital doing an emergency surgery.

  1. The murderer is wearing a trench coat. He also wears it on the subway and when he is walking down the street.
    Good blog.
