Kuebler-Patriot Games
Throughout the film it is obvious to see that family value is an integral part of its story. In the movie we see and hear about multiple families. From the beginning we see Ford's family, the Royal family, the IRA family, Samuel L. Jackson's family, James Earl Jones' family and the CIA as a family. The idea of family is a key part of life and we all find ourselves drifting towards such a thing. Taking note that not all families are part of the nuclear family and that some are rather lacking in the traditional appeal, it is still noted that family and trust is important.
The two families that I would like to stick with are Ford's and the IRA. These two families lead the movie and add plot points. If it were not for the IRA the movie would not have happened in the first place. Similarly, if Ford had not acted when the British family was attacked the movie would not have taken place. The fact that Ford intervened during the inciting incident is a key point in the movie because he wants to protect his family and the Royal family that is being attacked. Without him knowing though he kills part of another family in two separate ways. By killing Miller's little brother, Ford has taken the life of an IRA family member and the brother of Miller.
While Ford was doing this to protect his family, he hurt the family of the IRA and because of this was in danger of returned vengeance and hatred. Miller will do everything in his power to get justice for the death of his brother and no one, not even his IRA family, will stand in his way. Blood runs deeper than friendship and family is the top tier on the ladder of trust. If there is no trust within a family it collapses and we have an ending fitting for Miller and his death. He felt alone, fought alone, and died alone because he gave up on the idea of family.

It is not the traditional IRA, but the splinter group. In fact, Sean Miller has betrayed that family and that is the prime cause of his brother's death. Ryan was protecting his family, but he was also protecting the royals in the car. His earlier family, the CIA prepared him to respond to the terrorism of the IRA.
